Diamond spiral flat end mills are sharp. The main parameter of tool sharpness is the edge blunt radius p. When the tool clearance angle is constant, the smaller the blunt radius of the cutting edge, the smaller the deformation of the wood below the cutting plane, and the better the surface quality of the workpiece. From a physical point of view, the blunt radius p of the sharpest edge of a material has a limit. After calculation, the minimum blunt radius of the diamond edge can reach 2nm. However, the blunt radius of the precision ground diamond tool edge can be about 0.5 μm, while the blunt radius of the ordinary tool edge is 5~30 μm.


Chemical stability. Diamond cutting tools have good chemical stability. Because of its high thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity and low friction coefficient, the temperature rise of the friction surface is only 20% of that of other tool materials. Moreover, diamond has a low linear expansion coefficient and small thermal stress, so it also has good thermal stability and extremely high hardness at high temperatures.
Wear resistance. Even if the size, angle and cutting parameters of diamond tools are the same, their durability varies greatly due to the microstructure of the tool edge. For example, when cutting laminate flooring with a ration of 45g/m2 wear-resistant paper, a diamond finishing knife with good performance can process about 2000m2 per cutting point, while some diamond finishing knives can only process hundreds of square meters. In addition to cutting and angle parameters, factors that affect the durability of diamond tools include the crystallization orientation of the diamond and the roughness of the front and rear surfaces of the tool. The roughness of the tool edge depends on the roughness of the front and rear blade surfaces. The roughness of the ground edge can reach Ry10nm, and its wear resistance is fully reflected.
The loss forms of cutting edges vary, but there are two basic loss forms:
First, it is a sudden chipping caused by the accumulation of tiny brittle damage;
Second, it is a smooth wear surface formed by micro-wear (normal wear). Under normal wear and tear, PCD forming milling cutters can process wood for about 25,000 hours, while carbide milling cutters can only last about 75 hours. When milling high-density fiberboard, the PCD forming milling cutter can maintain a cutting length of about 1 million m, while the carbide milling cutter can only mill 05,000 to 10,000 m. According to test data, the durability of diamond tools is 80 to 360 times that of carbide tools under the same conditions. Diamond (PCD) woodworking tools have the advantages of high hardness, high wear resistance, high thermal conductivity, long life, and high processing efficiency, which greatly reduce the overall cost. In recent years, diamond woodworking tools have gradually become the leading tool in wood processing.
