1. The shaving straight cutter is the most widely used milling cutter and can be used in various operations such as trimming, paneling, boring, tenoning and engraving. Trimming machines most commonly use 6mm milling cutters, while woodworking engraving machines commonly use 12mm milling cutters. The main reason is that the size of the milling cutter is the same as the diameter of the shank, which is more convenient in operation, and the price of the milling cutter is relatively cheap.
2. There are two types of trimming knives: single bearing and double bearing. They are mainly used for trimming operations. The three commonly used ones are two points, three points and four points. The trimming knife's bearing and blade are in a straight line, so it is very convenient and accurate to trim straight lines or curves. Often used in decorative carpentry work. There is also a milling cutter with the bearing above the blade, called a back button cutter, which is very suitable for milling table operations.
3. The width of the flat feather knife from the blade to the bearing is only 6mm, which is narrower than the T-shaped groove line knife. It saves wood when joining panels, so it is often used in half-groove edge joining operations.
4. Triangular shuttle cutter is generally used to make dovetail tenons. It can be used with the dovetail tenoning machine. It can also be used to mill dovetail grooves and dovetail paneling. The angle of the dovetail tenon is also different due to the difference between soft and hard wood. European and American carpenters generally use 1:8 for hardwood and 1:6 for softwood to determine the angle. Taiwanese carpenters often use angles to calculate directly. If you want to make dovetail tenons at different angles, you need to customize a special triangular shuttle cutter. This requires finding a professional woodworking tool shop.
